Edit and Modify Takeoffs

29 views April 15, 2026

After a takeoff is created, you can modify it without starting over. The Takeoff workspace provides several tools to edit properties, extend measurements, adjust geometry, or remove takeoffs entirely. This article explains the available edit options and when to use each one.

Important notes

  • Editing takeoffs does not change sheet scale.
  • Changes in the Takeoff workspace are reflected in PLBM only after syncing quantities.
  • Regenerating a BOM is required to reflect updated quantities or ordering.
  • The measurement type cannot be changed once it has been used. For example, you cannot change a linear count to a count.
  • Deleting a takeoff cannot be undone once it has been saved.

Access takeoff editing options

Most takeoff editing actions are available from the Sheets panel. Each takeoff appears as a line item on the sheet.

  1. Open the sheet containing the takeoff.
  2. In the Sheets panel, locate the takeoff line item.
  3. Select the ellipsis (… ) next to the takeoff to view available actions.

Edit takeoff properties

Use Edit Properties to update configuration values without changing geometry.

You can edit:

  • Multiplier
  • Bill of Materials (BOM) section
  • Use
  • Color
  • Other Key Measure–specific settings

Changes apply immediately and affect future quantity syncs.

Resume a takeoff

Use Resume to continue a takeoff that was previously stopped. This is useful when you need to extend a measurement. For example, continuing a linear wall run or adding more area to an elevation.

Add points to refine geometry

Use Add Point to insert additional points into an existing linear or area takeoff. This allows you to adjust the shape or path without redrawing the takeoff.

Add new segments

Use Add New Segment or press N to create additional disconnected segments within the same takeoff. For example, interior wall takeoffs with multiple rooms or area takeoffs with multiple elevation sections.

Edit or extend a count takeoff

Use the ellipsis menu in the Sheets panel to edit properties or delete the takeoff.

Select an existing count takeoff and choose Add Count to add additional items.

Subtract areas from an area takeoff

For area takeoffs, you can remove portions of the measured area using Subtract Area tools.

Available options include:

  • Polygon – remove irregular shapes
  • Rectangle – quickly remove windows, doors, or overlaps

Delete a takeoff

Use Delete to permanently remove a takeoff from the sheet. Deleted takeoffs no longer contribute to quantities.

Note: Deleting a takeoff cannot be undone once it has been saved.
