Use a Linear Takeoff to measure lengths such as walls, framing members, or other linear elements.
Before you begin
- The job must be open in the Takeoff workspace.
- Sheet scale must be set accurately.
- Appropriate Linear Key Measures must be configured.
Perform a linear takeoff
-
- In the Takeoff panel, select the appropriate Key Measure. This will open the Measurement Properties dialog.
- In the Measurement Properties dialog, review or update settings such as linear type, multiplier, BOM section, and color.
- Linear Type determines whether the Key Measure is a flat linear measurement or has a pitch.
- The Multiplier allows you to set a nominal multiplier for this takeoff. For example, setting a multiplier to a value of 2 will double any measurement taken with this takeoff.
- Choosing a Section for this count takeoff will determine where within the Bill of Materials this takeoff will appear.
- Optionally, you can assign a specific Use, and it will appear on the job Bill of Materials.
- Assign a Color that you want to use for this takeoff.
- Select Apply.
- Open the Linear tool.
- Click to place points along the centerline of the element you are measuring, working your way around the full perimeter of the element.
- Continue placing points until complete, then select Stop Recording or press R. You should now see a perimeter line around the floor plan. In the Sheets panel, you will also see a line item showing the Linear measurement you just created.
Results: The linear measurement appears in the Sheets panel and is used to calculate quantities when synced to PLBM.
Add new segments
- Use Add New Segment or press N to start a new linear segment without exiting the tool.
- This is commonly used for interior walls or disconnected elements.
