Perform a Count Takeoff

3 views March 26, 2026

Use a Count Takeoff to count individual items on a plan, such as doors, fixtures, or hardware. Count takeoffs are ideal when you need a simple quantity rather than a length or area measurement.

Before you begin

  • The job must be open in the Takeoff workspace.
  • Sheet scale should be set.
  • The appropriate Key Measure must be available.

Perform a count takeoff

  1. In the Takeoff panel, select the appropriate Key Measure. This will open the Measurement Properties dialog.
  2. In the Measurement Properties dialog, review or update settings such as multiplier, BOM section, use, and color.
    1. The Multiplier allows you to set a nominal multiplier for this takeoff. For example, setting a multiplier to a value of 2 will double any measurement taken with this takeoff.
    2. Choosing a Section for this count takeoff will determine where within the Bill of Materials this takeoff will appear.
    3. Optionally, you can assign a specific Use, and it will appear on the job Bill of Materials.
    4. Assign a Color that you want to use for this takeoff.
  3. Select Apply.
  4. Next, Pipeline LBM will open the Count tool.
  5. Click the center of each item you want to count.
  6. Once they are all selected, click Stop Recording or press R to finish.
  7. The count appears as a line item in the Sheets panel and contributes quantities during sync to PLBM.
