LotSpec for AutoCAD Architecture 2024.2.0

Released –  4/29/2024

New Feature

Auto Dimension Groups

Automatic dimensions can now be organized into groups to allow for uniquely generated sets of dimensions within a single drawing that adhere to specific level and layer assignments. This capability will better support multi-disciplinary or multi-level content management strategies where all design elements are placed within one drawing as opposed to creating multiple drawings with separate sets of dimensions to achieve the same outcome. (Video Available)

Enhancements

  • Upgrade Note: LotSpec Remote Dispatch 3.0.4 has been republished to support minor changes made during this release. Customers using this application alongside LotSpec for ACA 24.2 are advised to perform simultaneous upgrades.

Fixes

  • Resolved an issue where solved projects had ignored exclusion rules that were applied to Option Groups resulting in inaccurate outcomes.

  • Revised the ‘Add Option to Option Sets’ functionality to allow users to maintain the original Option Set Code and Name values when the fields are left empty. The original automatic file update and re-pathing activity associated with this function is now controlled by a toggle to give the user more control over when or even if they desire this activity to occur.

LotSpec for AutoCAD Architecture 2024.1

Released –  10/23/2023

New Features

Poly Preview Test Solve

Allows users to temporarily preview poly options in their solved state, actively edit poly option objects while in their solved state and restore those edits back to their pre-solved poly box locations when finished. This aims to significantly improve the user’s ability to design and refine displaced objects by allowing the preview and edit activities to occur at the same time while in context to neighboring objects. This also aims to net significant long term time savings by mitigating the back-and-forth review of before and after solve results to find and fix intersecting design issues. (Video Available)

Enhancements

  • Additional right-click capabilities have been added to the Option Sets palette to improve the efficiency of making changes to existing lists. ‘Add Option to Checked’ now allows users to seamlessly integrate new options into existing option sets and will automatically re-path xref links as necessary. ‘Copy Checked & Add Option’ now allows users to duplicate and rename multiple selected option sets while adding an additional option as a new method for creating additional new option sets. (Video Available)
  • The File Option now contains a ‘Refresh Override’ setting that will tell LotSpec not to overwrite and replace specific drawings but to run the AutoCAD ‘Refresh’ command on them instead. This will be useful when performing post-solve edits to the initial solve using the AutoCAD ‘Linework’ command and wish to preserve those edits on reoccurring solves thereafter.
  • LotSpec Remote users now have additional job priority settings for more control over queue behavioral preferences when using mixed job types or to lock out a job type to focus on the other. LotSpec users can now also flag jobs being sent to Remote as high priority to ensure they are next inline at the top of the queue.
  • Upgrade Note: LotSpec Remote Dispatch 3.0.3 has been republished to support minor changes made during this release. Customers using this application alongside LotSpec for ACA 24.1 are advised to perform simultaneous upgrades.

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue that resulted in Remote job interruptions when multiple sessions of Remote required simultaneous write access to the project’s solve history file.
  • Fixed an issue that occasionally prevented Remote jobs from printing .PDF documents because the .DSD files were still being used by other processes.
  • Fixed a Clone Sheets dialog issue that prevented users from using multiple periods within their sheet number values.
  • Fixed an issue where the Clone Sheets and Find & Replace QuickSheets functions did not properly support mirrored Option Sets created by solving with the mirror toggle.

LotSpec for AutoCAD Architecture 2024.0

Released –  4/17/2023

New Features

Option Browser

The Option Browser provides users with a single place to view and edit all option rules throughout the entire project to simplify rule management which was a fragmented and frustrating process before. The Option Browser displays and filters rules by option type, element category, and drawing while also providing the ability to search conditions. Existing rules can easily be revised or removed and the elements that have rules applied can quickly be selected for deeper levels of inspection. Any option related errors will be highlighted in red making them easy to find.

Video Available

Incremental Solve Progression

The Drawing Solve and Project Solve dialogs now contain a ‘Show Progression’ toggle designed to slow down the solve process making it easier to understand how each rule is executed and to better visualize where and when an option related error occurs when troubleshooting. With ‘Show Progression’ toggled, users can manually step through each incremental change at their own pace. If any errors are encountered along the way, LotSpec will notify the user the moment it occurs and auto-zoom on the problem area.

Video Available

Poly Option Copy Behavior

The Poly Option type has been enhanced to support an additional ‘Copy’ behavior toggle. This supports circumstances where content needs to be copied to multiple solve locations within the same solved drawing.  This will allow for more efficient use of reusable content that could exist in multiple locations at the same time.

Video Available

Remote Monitor

A new Remote Monitor feature has been added to the Solve panel for viewing and managing the progress of all jobs submitted to LotSpec Remote while active within LotSpec and no longer requires the use of the LotSpec Dispatch utility to do this. The job status grid, job information and right click capabilities behave exactly as they do in LotSpec Dispatch and will empower LotSpec users to monitor activity load before sending jobs and track progress of their own jobs after sending them.

Video Available

Enhancements

  • LotSpec for AutoCAD Architecture is now compatible with the new 2024 AutoCAD Architecture platform.
  • The Find & Replace Rule utility has been enhanced to allow the user to select additional constructs and views outside of the active drawing so that changes can be propagated throughout the entire project if desired. Renaming or deleting options from within the Options Palette will also trigger the Find & Replace utility automatically. Find & Replace activities will now be logged to a text file within the project folder when complete. – Video Available
  • The Quick Sheets tools that originally only worked for Sheets can now also be used on Constructs and Views for greater efficiency. Actions that drive Construct or View related changes can now be found within the ‘Quick Drawings’ tab which is adjacent to the ‘Quick Sheets’ tab.
  • Right click menu options have been standardized across all solve dialogs to include Check All, Uncheck All, Expand All, and Collapse All for consistency and improved efficiency.

Fixes

  • Addressed an issue where Find Source Object utility would not trace back to source project correctly from drawings that were renamed using File Options. It may be necessary to rerun a solve for any drawings where this issue existed before for LotSpec to have the information it requires to trace back correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where the Clone Sheet tool would not work as expected when sheet subsets were not set to ‘Yes’ within the ‘Create Folder Hierarchy’ for project settings.

LotSpec for AutoCAD Architecture 2023.1

Released –  11/21/2022

New Features

Find & Replace Text Functionality

A new Find & Replace Text function has been added to the Quick Sheets tools and will complement the clone sheets functionality so that changing view title text can be addressed more efficiently. The Find & Replace Text function is available within the right click menu as an independent function and also within the clone sheets dialog so that it can occur while cloning sheets.

Video Update Available

Enhancements

  • The existing ‘About’ button has been transformed into a ‘Resources’ button that now provides additional quick access to product education links and Simpson Strong-Tie building technology links. License information can now be found within the ‘Manage License’ selection at the top of the resources list.
  • Reworked the Miter Roof Edges utility behavior for a more predictable outcome. Users will be asked to save their active drawing which allows LotSpec to temporarily enforce a single viewport while in the command. Users can then continue selecting consecutive slab edge pairs until pressing escape to exit out of the command and to restore the prior viewport configuration.
  • The remove option data utility now also allows for poly box option data to be removed within the same command so that users no longer have to reapply a poly option to remove that particular rule set.
  • Option labels for rule errors will now generate with a red color to provide better distinction between working rules and broken rules when viewed together and also to stand out better when zoomed out on larger drawings.
  • The show object extents utility will now draw polylines on a LotSpec layer rather than layer zero to avoid visibility issues when that layer is the default layer and is turned off. LotSpec will now also automatically remove the object extents polylines prior to solving similar to option labels.
  • The option set solve dialog will now remember the users previous selections to help speed up recursive solving during the option set refinement process.

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue with the clone sheets function where in some circumstances would not properly swap view by option set or source view as well as reduced the likelihood of some fatal errors that led to crashing.
  • Revised option deletion behavior to properly consider both option sets and option packages and provided more detail in the confirmation dialog for stronger understanding of what answering “Yes” or “No” will do to any associated option sets or option packages.
  • Fixed the find & replace option rule utility to expand it’s impact on all rules stored within the LotSpec settings dialog as well as existing option labels.
  • Fixed an issue that did not allow the mirror plan toggle to be available when solving option sets using the solve on LotSpec Remote feature.
  • Fixed an issue that did not allow for proper illegal character validation to occur within key option and option set information fields.

LotSpec for AutoCAD Architecture 2023.0

Released –  8/8/2022

New Features

Clone Sheet Functionality

Master Set development can be a slow grind of repetitious tedium with much time spent clicking, opening and closing multiple dialogs to replicate often very similar sheet layouts that only differ slightly by option. The new Clone Sheet function allows users to more efficiently duplicate sheets while being able to specify the new sheet name & number, specify the desired sheet subset location, run a find & replace option on all existing views, independently control view changes by option set or source view, and automatically refresh the project sheet list all from within one dialog. The Clone Sheet function can be accessed from within the Quick Sheets tool via the right click context menu.

New Video Available

Miter Roof Edges Utility

In an effort to make the native miter process more efficient for our users who perform extensive 3D roof development, we have created a new miter roof edges utility which aims to reduce clicks and pre-command selection requirements by allowing for a window selection of slab pairs with the ability to [Spacebar] through additional slab pair miters without starting the miter command over each time.

The Solve History provides a platform to view records of previous solves and any related solve errors. This will be helpful when troubleshooting solve related issues after they have occurred and make it easier to zero in on any problematic drawings.

New Video: Solve History

Remove Option Data

The Remove Option Data utility allows for the removal of all LotSpec option information from the selected objects. This aims to prevent unintended transformations during the solve process for objects that were copied which still retained LotSpec rules.

Enhancements

  • The Lot Job solve dialog has been revised to better handle the growing amount of configuration information and to provide a common Lot Job submittal experience when also using LotSpec Dispatch or LotSpec for Revit.
  • The Lot Job solve dialog now provides a toggle called Solve on LotSpec Remote allowing users to send the Lot Jobs directly to LotSpec Remote without requiring the LotSpec Dispatch utility to do so.
  • The Tools panel has been renamed to Utilities panel and displays more functions outside of the dropdown list making them more accessible.
  • Any source project files that are open will now be automatically saved if needed prior to executing a solve command. This will ensure no prior unsaved work is accidently lost as a result.
  • Created functionality to use custom linetypes for Poly option labels if desired. For example, linetypes with arrow indicators can be loaded to better illustrate the “left to right” and “right to left” direction of movement for the Poly options. See Knowledge Base
  • Enhanced the Option Label “On” buttons to allow users to only show labels for selected elements as opposed to all elements within the view.
  • LotSpec Remote will now always prioritize pending Lot Job types over Option Set Job types so that the more time sensitive and business critical job types don’t get stuck behind potentially hours of drafting related updates that are already in the queue.
  • The LotSpec Dispatch utility has been updated to 3.0 to fully support the new Option Packages functionality for both the ACA and Revit platforms.
  • The LotSpec Dispatch utility job status display page has been reworked to present more job related information. Pending jobs can now be placed on hold and resumed at a later time. All jobs can now be archived for record keeping or removed without navigating to the queue folder to do so. See Video Update
  • The LotSpec Dispatch utility branding is now consistent with the LotSpec core products.

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue that produced an error message when solving with the current layer turned “off”.
  • Fixed an issue where the “Drawing Busy” error would occur after using the Find Source Object utility which attempts to re-solve the source drawing while the solved drawing is still open.

Upgrade Note

  • For existing users of LotSpec Remote, the new version of LotSpec Dispatch 3.0 must be used after upgrading to LotSpec 22.1.

Layer Option

The new Layer Option type allows users to apply option rules to layers within Views, Constructs, or Elements and can be accessed from the LotSpec Settings dialog under the Layer Option tab. The Layer Option works similarly to the Object Option and will affect all objects assigned to the layer. The Layer Option type could be used to manipulate dashed optional line work that might need to be kept for option sets, become solid when selected for lot specific solves or removed when not selected for lot specific solves. Video Available.

Roof Lines Tool

The new Roof Line tool was created to make the process of drawing intersecting 3D roof slabs at various pitches easier to accomplish, and requires the use of AEC roof objects.
